Le Corbier St-Jean d'Arves - What to see
Buried village, watermill saw, stone bridge, vestiges of a middle-ages castle, deer, marmots, panoramic views over the Belledone and Maurienne massifs ...it's all up to you !

Difficulty

The route

Start from the Tourist Office in La Chal (St Jean d'Arves) and take the road to Le Collet, then, near the chapel turn right towards Col d'Arves (trail, 1748 m). From Col d'Arves, continue on the ridge to Col de la Chal (1813 m). At the col, go down towards le Corbier via "Sur les Potets" and La Vernaz. You can go right down to the resort and the Tourist Office.

The ascent towards Col de la Chal is effected via Combe des Arvins, then the path that leads straight to Col de la Chal. Descend to St-Jean d'Arves by Crêt de Pralud (there, do not miss the view on the Grandes Rousses, Aiguilles d'Arves, and Ecrins massifs , Maurienne and la Chal).

Alternative route from Saint-Jean d'Arves : In la Chal, you can go on (adding 7 kms) to the village of Les Chambons and go back up by the tower road. The latter passes by the ruins of a middle-ages castle.

Alternative route from le Corbier : At the Tourist Office, take towards Le Cruet and the lake of L'Œillette. A long ascending trail, wide in the forest, will lead you to Pont de la Scie (admire the old waterwheel saw, activated by the watermill on the river). Go up via Champlong and La Tigny. Arrived on D78, take the road to return to the resort.

Access
From exit N°27 (St-Jean-de-Maurienne) on A43, follow "Vallée de l'Arvan / Col de la Croix de Fer" and St-Jean d'Arves (D 926) then the panoramic road (D 80) towards la Chal.
If you wish to start from Le Corbier, take D78 instead of D 926. At St-Jean de Maurienne's SNCF station, take the bus or a taxi.
